PATRICIA RYAN MADSON

Patricia Ryan Madson, Professor Emerita at Stanford University and author of IMPROV WISDOM: Don’t Prepare, Just Show Up (2005) which combines Keith Johnstone’s theories and exercises with Dr. David K. Reynolds’ ideas in the field of psychology to help others pay attention and respond spontaneously to the present moment.  At Stanford, where Madson began teaching in 1977, she served as the head of the undergraduate acting division and developed the improvisation program.  She founded the Stanford Improvisers (SImps) and taught beginning and advanced level courses in improvisation for undergraduate as well as adults in Stanford's Continuing Studies Program (http://www.improvwisdom.com/).
